A swift return to Unit X - Zine. What are they?

That time of the year has returned again, and unit X is in full swing.

After last year's "rake's progress" and the six paper theatre boxes, this year, Unit X is taking a different turn, allowing us to choose our own preference of projects, from a selection of colleges.

Project Zine was the most appealing by far, due to the fact that zines have been slowly creeping into my illustrator life over the past year. It was last October when I actually discovered what a fanzine was, and immediately took a shine to the format.

But what is a zine?

It's typically a photocopied, risographed, or hand drawn, folded book, that was synonymous with music festivals, group meetings, and clubs, (basically what facebook and blog sites such as this do for everyone now).

Another fun way to explain what a zine is: (A zine is basically the un-evolved form of a magazine, normally featuring similar content, but on a smaller, and in modern days, more of a cult following way).

So what's the plan exactly?

Our goal is simply to make our own zine, in a group of 2 people or more, on a particular subject. Preferably with people on other courses, with different skill-sets, offering a larger array of opportunities to the end product. Our group is yet to be decided.

What is the purpose of this blog?

The overall goal here is to carefully document the progress of the project, through photographic and written accounts of events throughout the project duration.

Here goes...
